Tips for Saving Money with a Time-of-Use Energy Pricing Plan

When summer weather heats up, energy bills mirror the temperature gauge as people crank up their air conditioning, fans and pool pumps.

Historically, reducing energy use has been the only way to save on your energy bill. Now you have a new way to save.

We have rolled out Time of Use energy plans, offering customers two ways to save: 1) by shifting electricity use to lower cost hours of the day, before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m., and 2) by reducing overall usage.

Over a 24-hour period, customers can take advantage of 19 hours of off-peak, lower prices. TOU plans also support a greener future by encouraging use of energy when the grid has abundant renewable resources, like solar power.

Money-Saving Tips

If you’re already on a TOU pricing plan, here are some tricks and tips to help you save on your energy bill.

  1. Pre-cool your home: set the air conditioner to cool your home in the mid-morning or early afternoon, before 4 p.m.
  2. Plug in your electric vehicle (EV) after 9 p.m.: Instead of plugging in your EV right after you get home from work, wait until after 9 p.m.
  3. Dishes after dark: Delay turning on your dishwasher until after 9 p.m.
