Tips for summer

Spring Forward for Summer Savings

Turning the clocks forward an hour is a sign that summer is just around the corner. “Springing forward” brings sunshine at dinner time, spring cleaning, and replacing batteries on your household smoke detectors.  As you plan for summer, now is good time to get your home “summer ready” and we don’t mean by sprucing up your patio furniture.

Plan ahead for summer savings

Here are three things you can do this spring to help manage your summer bill:

  1. Looking for a new fridge, washer or other appliance? Visit SDG&E's Marketplace to compare energy savings and rebates.
  2. Is your A/C tech savvy? Do you want it to be? You may qualify for a free smart thermostat if you sign up for SDG&E’s Reduce Your Use rewards program. SDG&E will send a signal to the thermostat to put it in energy savings mode and the Reduce Your Use Rewards program will give you a credit on your bill when you save enough electricity.
  3. Have a pool? Check your pool pump to see if you could save on a newer more energy efficient model. We offer a $200 rebate on select models. A variable-speed pump can save you 30–75 percent on energy costs.

Stay cool for the summer

When the mercury rises, follow these tips to help manage increases in your utility bill that comes with cooling your home:

  • Set your A/C to 78 degrees when you’re at home.
  • Make sure your doors and windows are properly sealed. This helps prevent hot air from entering your home or business.
  • Close the blinds, shades or drapes to block the sun’s heat.
  • Fans are a great way to stay cool. They can also be much cheaper than running the A/C.
