SAN DIEGO, April 20, 2017 – San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has issued a request for offers (RFO) for two of its innovative programs, EcoChoice and EcoShare, which enables customers to subscribe to additional levels of clean energy – beyond the 43 percent that SDG&E delivered to its customers in 2016 – to support the local growth of renewable energy. Today, this additional clean energy is sourced from existing solar facilitates. SDG&E’s RFO is being issued to identify new renewable energy facilities that will be built specifically for EcoChoice and EcoShare customers.
The RFO is in accordance with regulators’ authorization to issue programs intended to:
- Make renewable energy available to customers, whether they own a home and/or can afford a significant capital investment;
- Increase the overall volume of renewable energy in the San Diego area; and
- Increase options for institutional, commercial and residential customers to meet their renewable energy goals.
Developers who are interested in the programs can now submit their offers by visiting sdge.com/request-proposals. The deadline to submit bids is May 5.
Customers, who want to purchase a higher percentage of clean energy than what they already get from SDG&E can choose to enroll in EcoChoice by clicking here. Customers who enroll pay a premium each month based on the size of their selected renewable energy subscription – up to 100 percent. The company developed an EcoChoice Cost Calculator for customers to estimate how much it will cost each month to purchase more renewable energy at their home or business.
