SDG&E’s Environmental All-Stars lend elbow grease to improve local neighborhood
Whether it was an article in the paper, a story online or something you’ve experienced in your own neighborhood, chances are that you’re aware of the affordable housing shortage in San Diego.
With some of the highest housing prices in the country, the dream of home ownership may seem to be moving further out of reach for many Southern Californians. Thankfully, our region has organizations like San Diego Habitat for Humanity, who are ready and able to tackle the housing shortage one property at a time.
Last Saturday, nearly 100 volunteers from SDG&E’s Environmental All-Stars and Sempra Energy had the opportunity to lend a hand to San Diego Habitat for Humanity for a new construction project—Comm22—which, once complete, will provide affordable housing for 11 deserving San Diego families. In addition to the new housing project, volunteers also helped with critical home repairs for a Logan Heights homeowner, allowing her to safely stay in her home.
BAME Community Development Corporation (CDC) also had a hand in the day’s activities, working with our Environmental All-Stars in the surrounding neighborhood to beautify the community by painting utility boxes, picking up litter and replanting the garden at the Gilliam Family Community Space.
