CNG Fueling Station

Open for Business: Newly Refurbished SDG&E CNG Fueling Station

A new, bright blue canopy for sun and rain protection, energy efficient LED lights, more powerful compressors to improve fill speed and reliability, and expanded tanks for higher fuel capacity – these are all upgrades to the recently refurbished SDG&E compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station off Miramar Road near Commerce Avenue.

The Miramar CNG fueling station, which is open to the public, has been operated by SDG&E for 20 years. As part of our mission to be the cleanest, safest and most reliable energy company in America, we are committed to improving our services to enhance customers’ lives. The refurbishment was initiated after gathering feedback from our customers who said we could improve our service by renovating our public-access CNG fueling stations. The suggestions were used to plan a major overhaul of all CNG fueling stations operated by both SDG&E and SoCalGas across Southern California.

In addition to energy efficiency and reliability upgrades, the station off Miramar Road is now more visible to approaching motorists with bolder pricing signage near the street. And drivers already agree that the new “gasoline style” dispenser nozzles are easier to operate.

Improving air quality one vehicle at a time

SDG&E’s natural gas vehicles (NGV) are all fueled at this location as well as fleets of public buses, refuse trucks, taxis and other transportation vehicles across the county.

The Miramar CNG fueling station, like other CNG stations, helps improve air quality by providing a clean-burning, abundant, domestically-produced and affordable fuel for growing commercial fleets. NGVs produce between 20-30 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than conventional diesel or gasoline trucks helping to clean the air we breathe. The latest generation of heavy-duty engines also reduce harmful, smog-forming NOx emissions by 90 percent below current standards. NGVs play an important role in building healthier communities and improving the quality of life for families living near transportation corridors.

Our other two CNG fueling stations in Kearny Mesa and Carlsbad will also undergo upgrades in the near future. And, to keep pace with growing customer demand, we will be expanding the number of new public-access CNG stations across our service territory. Stay tuned for locations.
