National Drive Electric Week: Student Filmmakers Win Big With #LOVELECTRIC

This National Drive Electric Week, we're highlighting  The Media Arts Center San Diego's  22nd annual iVIE (Innovative Video in Education) Student Awards & Film Festival held earlier this year, attracting student filmmakers from schools across the county.

LOVELECTRICYoung visual artists competed across categories that included news stories, PSAs, animation, and a call to action to use  Tik Tok for good. Returning for a second year, the #LOVELECTRIC category, sponsored by SDG&E, enticed students from all age groups to submit a video focused on electric vehicles and all the reasons to #LOVELECTRIC! Three winning student filmmakers, one from each grade category, walked away with checks for $750.

Chase Aure, a Point Loma High School senior, emerged as champion in the #LOVELECTRIC 9-12 grade category with his submission, "Switch to Electric!" Chase's video encouraged drivers to #LOVELECTRIC as much as he does.

"I currently drive an EV and definitely see electric vehicles as the way of the future, Chase explained. "EVs are a more viable option than gasoline-powered cars. They reduce air pollutants and contribute to a healthier environment."

Other winners in the #LOVELECTRIC competition included the Middle School entry by The Legacy Alliance, titled "Electric Adventure Telephone Game Show," and Magnolia Elementary School with their video, "Electric Avenue.”

“The films submitted for this edition of our annual celebration of young visual artists were more accomplished and dynamic than ever before,” Exhibition Arts Manager at the Media Arts Center San Diego, Moisés Esparza observed.

iVIE Student Awards & Film Festival is a local K-12 student video competition and festival conceived to encourage and reward teachers and students who recognize the power of video as a creative and educational tool.

Since 2001, iVIE has grown into a major San Diego County-wide student video competition. Annually, there are over 500 video submissions from 120 teachers, 73 Schools, 23 Districts, and a handful of private schools, involving approximately 3,500 students. Submitted videos are judged by media professionals and educators curated by Media Arts Center San Diego.

We're always happy to support others to #LOVELECTRIC!
