Editor's Note: At SDG&E, we are working with public agencies across the region to expand the transition to electric vehicles to include medium- and heavy-duty equipment, such as electric trucks and forklifts—helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and clean the air we breathe.
On June 7, Inside Climate News published an article highlighting the Port of San Diego’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by replacing diesel machinery with electric equipment.
With our support in obtaining a $5.9 million grant from the California Energy Commission, some port tenants are “plugging-in” new 22,000-pound electric semi trucks and electric forklifts, paving the way for the Port’s transportation electrification.
As part of our continued commitment to clean energy innovation, earlier this year, we filed an application with the California Public Utilities Commission for approval to install EV charging stations at the Port, along with research meters to study the charging patterns of electrified trucks and other large equipment.
