“Going to Bat for San Diego” in Full Swing at Petco Park

SDG&E and the San Diego Padres team up for non-profits dedicated to building a safer San Diego

Before the Padres stepped onto the field to earn a victory against the Chicago Cubs last night, SDG&E and the San Diego Padres recognized four non-profit organizations during a special pre-game First Responder Salute as part of season two of “Going to Bat for San Diego.”

SDG&E and the Padres were joined by members of the San Diego Police Foundation, San Diego County Deputy Sheriff’s Foundation, San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation and San Diego Regional Fire Foundation to recognize their efforts to improve the preparedness and resiliency of the San Diego community.

A swing and a hit!

Safety is up to the plate for the 2017 season of “Going to Bat for San Diego,” with more than $400,000 in SDG&E shareholder-funded donations to be made to 11 non-profits committed to improving the preparedness, resiliency and safety of the San Diego region by the end of the year.

Fans that have already made their way to Petco Park this season had the opportunity to cheer for the American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties, as they were presented with a “Going to Bat” donation before the Padres bested the Rockies on May 2—and there are more chances for the grandstands to make some noise for our community partners and the work they do strengthen our region at games during the season:

SDG&E will also be partnering with STAR/PAL and the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation for a Kids Corner during Safety Sundays at Petco Park on June 25, July 16, August 20 and September 3, where young Padres fans can engage in interactive and fun activities to learn more about preparedness and emergency safety.

Visitors to Petco Park can “Go to Bat” with us at any home game this season simply by purchasing a Friar Frank. SDG&E will match the purchase price of hot dogs with donations to 2-1-1 San Diego, San Diego Crime Stoppers and the San Diego Police Officer’s Association. Fans watching from home can follow #GTB4SD on social media to stay up to date and learn more about the organizations’ benefitting from “Going to Bat for San Diego.”
