Community safety organizations receive $700,000+ in SAFE San Diego grants
From the far reaches of East County to the coastlines of Carlsbad, safety got a helping hand today through SDG&E’s SAFE San Diego giving initiative.
More than $700,000 in grants were awarded to 81 non-profit organizations dedicated to safety and emergency preparedness in the San Diego region, including more than 60 local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and Fire Safe Councils.
The grants were announced this morning as representatives from community organizations gathered to connect and talk about the vital work they each do to protect and educate their communities. Our partners also had the chance to meet with SDG&E’s Emergency Management, Gas Operations and Meteorology teams to learn more about our newest innovations in fire safety and emergency preparedness and response.
“Delivering clean, safe, reliable energy to millions of homes and businesses every day is a big responsibility—and it’s one we take very seriously at SDG&E,” said Mitch Mitchell, SDG&E vice president of external affairs. “As we work to make our system as safe and resilient as possible, it’s important we also invest in the community organizations that provide vital outreach, education and support to help San Diego prepare before an emergency.”
The organizations we support through SAFE San Diego play crucial roles in preparing our communities for emergencies and oftentimes provide frontline support when a crisis does occur.
