Thank you

Showing Gratitude to the Men and Women Who Keep the Lights on Every Day

Join us to #ThankALineman for National Lineman Appreciation Day

If you’re reading this article on a computer, smart phone or tablet, you probably have a lineman to thank for it—and today, April 18, is the perfect day to acknowledge the contributions linemen make to our community, as we celebrate National Lineman Appreciation Day.

The job of an electric lineman requires dedication, commitment and sacrifice. Each day, SDG&E linemen work tirelessly throughout the region building, maintaining and repairing electric infrastructure to keep our communities safe and fully powered. Working in tough conditions—oftentimes behind the scenes—these electric first responders brave heights, high voltages and tough weather to deliver safe, reliable power to our customers.

At SDG&E, we’re proud to partner with the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) Local 465 to ensure our customers—and the San Diego region as a whole—benefit from their skilled workers’ knowledge, experience and dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety.

“The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 465 was founded in 1904 here in San Diego and from our inception we have been representing the hard working linemen who work at SDG&E,” said IBEW Local 465 Business Manager, Nate Fairman. “These sisters and brothers are incredibly talented and go through a rigorous four-year apprenticeship, which includes three years of night school studying electrical theory. They often spend nights and weekends away from their families and risk their lives in order to repair and maintain a safe electrical grid in San Diego. Being a lineman is more than a job, and we are more than just co-workers—we are family. Thank you for everything that you do! On behalf of the staff, officers and 2,600 members of IBEW 465, Happy Linemen Appreciation Day!”

Without them, we wouldn’t be able to turn on the lights, run the AC, charge our cell phones or enjoy our favorite TV shows, so don’t forget to say “thank you” if you see a lineman working in your neighborhood or join the conversation on social using the hashtag #ThankALineman.
