Season of Giving: Creating a “Home Away from Home” with Ronald McDonald House

One of the highlights of the holiday season is celebrating at home with loved ones. For families with children being treated for serious conditions, the hours spent in a hospital can leave little time at home to enjoy these festivities.

For San Diego area families focused on caring for ill children, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego strives to create a “home away from home” to help alleviate some worries while children are in treatment. They do this through lodging, meals, educational activities and more.

Spreading holiday cheer

As part of the company's Season of Giving, a group of employees and their families had the opportunity to spread a bit of extra holiday cheer to the Ronald McDonald House and the families they support. Earlier this week, nearly 200 guests were served a delicious Thanksgiving feast, bringing huge smiles to the faces of all those who didn’t get the chance to celebrate the holiday last week.

"Our family wanted to help at the Ronald McDonald House because we have a friend who’s child lived there for six months while fighting for her life against cancer," said SDG&E Major Project Manager, Jamie Exon. "We saw the relief their services provide for families who are struggling with sometimes serious conditions.  Helping the organization makes us feel like we are doing something to help those families in their time of need."
