Our mission is providing you with clean, safe and reliable energy. To do this we make improvements to our system throughout the year which includes upgrading existing substations to help meet the increasing demand for electricity in the City of San Diego. Beginning this month, we will start work on the Point Loma Substation rebuild project which, once complete, will improve reliability and the integrity of our elecric system.
About the project
The Point Loma Substation is due for an upgrade given its aging equipment – the project will add energy capacity in the area allowing other substations to decrease their current “load” and run more efficiently. We will also replace old equipment inside the substation, and aging underground infrastructure along the surrounding streets, as well as build a retaining wall around the site to prevent erosion. New landscaping will be put in to help the substation blend in with the surrounding area.

Pardon our dust
Construction inside the substation began in July 2017 and is scheduled to continue through June 2018. During this time, planned working hours will be Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The work to re-route underground facilities and replace aging infrastructure along Wells and Udall Streets and Wabaska Drive is scheduled to begin August 2017 and is expected to be completed in December 2017.
SDG&E will be onsite to oversee construction and will be making every effort to minimize disruptions such as traffic, dust and noise in the project area.
