At SDG&E we strive to be the best energy company in an America. As part of this commitment, we often make improvements to the power grid that boost reliability, safety and increase our ability to integrate more clean energy.
Work recently began on an important reliability enhancement project called the Sycamore to Penasquitos (SX to PQ) Transmission Line project. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) determined the transmission project is critically needed to ensure that our customers continue to have safe, reliable energy.
SDG&E Major Projects Manager Matt Huber, who is spearheading this transmission line effort, is focused on safely completing the project with limited community impacts.
“We recognize that construction of any project can be inconvenient, which is why we want to help the community to plan ahead,” said Huber. “We’re excited to get started on this project and we look forward to completing our work to make our energy supply even more reliable by next summer.”
Construction Updates
We’re working to limit lane closures or obstructions on major roadways associated with this project, however from time to time we will need to change traffic patterns so our crews can safely complete their work.
If you live in the communities of Torrey Hills, Mira Mesa or Scripps Ranch, you will notice, over the course of the next year, SDG&E construction crews installing the 15-mile-long line that connects the existing substations. The project started in Mira Mesa, where work will be conducted in the evenings from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday through Friday. Work on the two overhead portions of line and in the areas east of the I-15 on Pomerado Rd. and Stonbridge Pkwy. will be conducted during daytime work hours.
