Wow! is the typical reaction of many visitors to the new Jackie Robinson Family YMCA located in Southeastern San Diego. It’s not just its state-of-the-art sports complex, gym, and community center that have won over the community, the facility’s environmental sustainability features have garnered accolades a well.
This YMCA was named an Energy Champion at our 13th annual Energy Showcase awards ceremony because it was designed with energy- and water-saving features inside and out. Only a dozen organizations earned the bragging rights as Energy Champions this year – for being the best of the best in energy efficiency, renewable energy use, and sustainability.
In addition, the US Green Building Council has certified the Jackie Robinson YMCA as a LEED Gold facility. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
