Environmental All-Stars Share New Ways to Volunteer Safely

In 2020, 537 Team SDG&E volunteers completed more than 1,300 hours of volunteer service. Now is your chance to help continue these tremendous efforts by getting involved this year!

Throughout last year, despite COVID-19 disruptions, our employees continued to inquire about opportunities to volunteer – a true reflection of the strong community spirit that we have at our company. Because of this, a new rendition of the Environmental All-Stars program was formed with a small group and household-unit volunteer opportunities that respect current public health orders.

We have been operating under specific safety precautions to continue supporting employee volunteer service throughout our community. Starting this month, the Environmental All-Stars will be back in action, offering at least two volunteer opportunities per month for employees and their family-units to get outside and safely volunteer.

All recommended precautions will be enforced, with each event having a maximum capacity of 10 volunteers until further notice. Masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, team t-shirts, and project equipment will be provided for volunteers at each event.

ProduceGood Month 'First Pick' Events

With many San Diegans facing economic hardship during the pandemic, we are continuing our partnership with ProduceGood to address food insecurity while harvesting produce that might otherwise go to waste. On the fourth Sunday of every month, volunteers will harvest produce from different orchards in northern and southern parts of the county such as Valley Center, Rancho Santa Fe, and Jamul. The bounty will then be distributed to local food pantries.

As a small organization, ProduceGood relies on hundreds of volunteers to sustain their programs, which seek to pair excess food with food distribution partners. While safety precautions discourage the gathering of large groups, our Environmental All-Stars are looking forward to hosting the general public when deemed safe in the future.
