As a result of rising temperatures, the California Independent System Operator’s (ISO) statewide Flex Alert continues today calling for voluntary electricity conservation from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Every year at SDG&E, we prepare for the summer by taking added measures to secure enough energy to serve the needs of our customers and the region. In addition, we are utilizing cutting-edge technologies to improve the lives of our customers and the communities we serve as we strive to be the cleanest, safest and most reliable energy company in America.
One such tool is an innovative dashboard that was developed last summer that allows our distribution system operators to quickly and easily monitor demand and activity on our electric system. This tool has been instrumental in the efficiency and management of the load on the grid, enhancing reliability for our customers.
We also are host to the largest private utility weather network in the nation, with more than 170 weather stations that provide real-time data like wind speeds, humidity and temperatures to inform operational decisions so that we have the best data to do our jobs.
Thank you to our customers for adhering to the voluntary flex alert. As a result, we do not foresee any issue with meeting the energy needs of our region over the course of this week of record breaking temperatures. However, the grid is interconnected and the conservation efforts in San Diego will help the entire State when it needs it the most.
