City of Chula Vista Recognizes SDG&E’s Tree Safety Program

Healthy Trees, Healthy Community

Healthy trees help clean the air we breathe, prevent erosion and conserve watersheds, but as trees mature, they can potentially interfere with overhead powerlines. At SDG&E we have an aggressive Tree Safety Program to keep vegetation clear of powerlines while supporting urban forestry and enhancing public safety.

Last week, our Vegetation Management team was recognized with a Proclamation of Arbor Day from the City of Chula Vista for its ongoing care and management of the city’s vibrant urban forestry program, which includes:

  • Emergency response to vegetation issues that pose potential hazards to public property.
  • Tree trimming to prevent future issues.
  • Removal of dead trees.
  • Replacement of 700 trees.

Why trees matter – even in the city

Trees are wildly important in a city environment. They naturally purify the air, provide shade from the sun, can reduce the temperature of buildings on hot days and act as a sound barrier to noise pollution.

Our team of Vegetation Management experts play a critical role in enhancing public safety and helping us build healthier communities for generations to come. As part of our mission to become the cleanest, safest and most reliable energy company in America, we will be participating in Arbor Day tree planting celebrations on April 28 and urge customers to engage directly in best safety practices prior to planting trees.
