If you love STEM—science, technology, engineering and math—be sure to check out the fun and inspiring activities taking place across our region through March 11, as part of the Biocom Institute Festival of Science and Engineering.

The festival features wide-ranging events for children and adults, including From Bach to Rock, STEM in Your Backyard: South Bay,  Watershed Warriors and ART SCIENCE COGNITION: Metaphor Building.

Celebrating Women in STEM

In honor of International Women’s Day today, March 8, we are co-hosting a Women in STEM event at the Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa Library to inspire the next generation of female leaders to pursue STEM careers.

The event will kick off with an interactive exhibition hour, where local companies and organizations showcase their work in STEM alongside science projects by middle and high school students. Attendees also will be treated to a TED Talks-style panel featuring distinguished women, including:

  • Helen Torley, president and CEO of Halozyme Therapeutics
  • An Chen, senior director of engineering at Qualcomm
  • Tracy Parrott, CEO of Tragara Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
  • Gita Murphy, CEO of RORE, Inc.
  • Elizabeth White, vice president of construction at Cox Communications
  • Kristen Cusato, associate director of communications at the Alzheimer's Association, San Diego/Imperial Chapter
  • Dawn Welch, director of IT portfolio management and quality assurance at San Diego Gas & Electric
