Meet Victor “Vic” Romero: Channeling Reliability for 39 Years

It was less than one week ago that SDG&E was recognized with the top honor for our electric reliability record in the western United States and we are continuing to thank every single employee for their hard work and commitment to ensuring our company is keeping the lights on to make our customers’ lives better.

Best in class reliability doesn’t happen by accident, and it doesn’t happen overnight – it takes every SDG&E employee from our linemen, to our grid operators, to our call center representatives to office-based employees who work every day to make sure electricity is available when our customers need it, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

At this year’s Reliability One Awards hosted by PA Consulting, we had the opportunity to honor one specific SDG&E employee who has demonstrated a strategic and focused effort to develop and utilize innovative technology to improve upon their company’s industry leading reliability performance.

That honor was presented to our very own Victor “Vic” Romero who took home the Reliability One Outstanding Contribution to Reliability Award that evening. Currently our Director of Technology Solutions & Reliability, Vic has been a vital member of the team for over 39 years.

His professional career started with SDG&E as an engineer and throughout the years has held positions of increased responsibilities on a number of teams crossing from engineering, field operations, and SDG&E’s innovative Smart Grid.

Vic’s wealth of knowledge makes him invaluable and that’s been demonstrated in his leadership and mentorship, with proven results.

Some of Vic’s notable accomplishments include:

  • Creating a process that ranks and prioritizes reliability projects to help prevent outages from happening in the future.
  • Leading the development of a new method that better analyzes power outages with a goal of reducing the amount of time a customer is without power.
  • Providing guidance to response teams during major events or emergencies such as wildfires and storms.

Vic’s an outstanding leader and is always challenging and passing his knowledge to the next generation of engineering professionals. His dedication to the company, the industry, and his success is second to none. There is no doubt that Vic embodies the values of SDG&E’s mission of providing safe, clean, reliable energy to our customers.
