Get Pedaling on May 18 for National Bike to Work Day!

There will be no planes, trains or automobiles for SDG&E’s Green Team this Thursday, May 18—instead, there will be bicycles. As part of National Bike to Work Day, a group of our employees will swap their usual rides for the power of their own two legs to get to the office.

Finding clean alternatives to get from point A to point B can have major positive impacts on the air we breathe, especially in San Diego, where the transportation sector accounts for more than half of all carbon emissions. Not only is Bike to Work Day a fun way to start the day with fresh air and exercise, it’s a great way to show how we can each do our part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and inspire others to make changes in their daily lives that will protect our environment for future generations.

Safety first!

As part of our commitment to clean air, clean transportation and the environment, more than 30 of our employees will do their part to curb harmful air emissions by biking to and from the office on Bike to Work Day. These employees aren’t only thinking green, they’re also keeping safety at top of mind. SDG&E’s riders attended a Smart Cycling Workshop, hosted through SANDAG’s iCommute program and the San Diego Bike Coalition, where our pedaling workers learned best practices for bike safety to make sure their ride is safe for everyone on the roads.

Get social

Strap on your helmet, hop on your bike and join thousands of commuters throughout the San Diego area who will be making their commute on two wheels this Thursday. Register for Bike to Work Day online for a free t-shirt and information on more than 100 pit stop locations where riders can take a break, make new friends, get some snacks and be cheered on by volunteers.

If you can’t join the ride on Thursday, you can still join in the conversation on social media. iCommute is hosting a Facebook contest where you can vote for your favorite individual rider, group of riders and pit stop. Follow the hashtags #BTWDcommuter, #BTWDcommutergroup and #BTWDpitstop to see photos of the activities taking place throughout San Diego.
