SDG&E is leading the nation in energy storage, just as we are with other clean innovations such as electric vehicles and renewable energy. We unveiled the world’s largest lithium ion battery storage facility in Escondido.
SDG&E sees energy storage as a flexible and reliable option for getting clean power to customers when they need it most. The Escondido battery will act like a sponge, soaking up energy when it is abundant—during the day when the sun shines or late at night when the wind is blowing—and releasing it when energy resources are tight.
To this date, SDG&E has approximately 100 megawatts (MW) of energy storage projects completed or contracted, which will allow us to supply more renewables to our customers and help strengthen our reputation as the most reliable utility in the West.
